5 Easy Science Curriculum Options For New Homeschoolers

One of my good friends recently decided on homeschooling and I’m so excited for her! I think she has always wanted to but was unsure if she had it in her as she works full time. I assured her that she is TOTALLY CAPABLE and that “school” doesn’t have to happen every day, or during traditional school hours. It’s HER homeschool. Together we are coming up with a plan that works for her and her family. One question that she had was about science.

Science is actually super easy, especially for the younger crowd. So I sent her to  The Homeschool Buyers Co-op. They have an award-winning selection of science and technology products, including core science curriculum and supplements, coding and programming courses, hands-on experimentation, and more. Science & Technology – Savings up to 95%!

Hands On Science Kits To Homeschool K-3rd Grade

1. Magic School Bus Science Club
Grade K-4 child can join Ms. Frizzle and her students on The Magic School Bus each month in exploring one of twelve different science topics through hands-on experiments.

Every month, you’ll receive a science kit with a colorful lesson manual and supplies to explore one new educational topic.

The topics are: Acids/Bases, Air, Bacteria/Fungi, Fossils, Human Body, Light/Rainbows and Mirrors, Magnets, Solids/Liquids/Gases, Stars/Planets, Volcanoes, Water, and Weather Stations.

2. Clifford The Big Red Dog Science Club
Perfect for ages 3 and up, Clifford will lead your child “by the paw” with the help of his friend Emily Elizabeth who narrates the story line of each experiment and guides young scientists through a captivating series of experiments.

Clifford The Big Red Dog science kits come delivered to your home for 6 months once a month. Each award-winning kit comes with a colorful 20-page manual as well as a lab tray and other science components (except for common household items) for 14 experiments and activities that will make children feel like real scientists.

Topics include: Clifford Kitchen Science , Clifford Water Science, Clifford Animal Science, Clifford Magic Science, Clifford Food Science, Clifford Rainbow Science.

3. The Young Scientists Club
Join Celsius the Science Bug in exploring 12 different science topics through hands-on experiments. Developed by a team of Harvard graduates, scientists, and educators, the award-winning kits will help your young scientist to experience science in a fun and engaging manner.

This science curriculum is unlike any store-bought science kits. Set up as a continuous learning experience, the kits not only build upon each other but are also interlinked. For example, when your child studies magnets with science kit 3, he/she will make a compass. This compass, in turn, will be used to study wind direction with a self-made weather vane from kit 4. This linkage enforces the learning of this science curriculum as a continuum as opposed to a one-time experience that children will most likely forget.

4. Real Science-4-Kids
If kits aren’t your thing we LOVE Real Science – 4 – Kids (I wrote a full review here). It introduces young children to the core scientific disciplines of chemistry, biology, physics, astronomy and geology.

Kids ask real science questions and it’s important to provide them with the tools needed for discovering real science answers. While teaching science concepts and facts, the Real Science-4-Kids curriculum also encourages the use of critical thinking skills, experimentation, and creativity. Real Science-4-Kids teaches science concepts in a sequential and logical order, beginning with the basic building blocks of science and expanding on these concepts as kids advance in grade level.

5. Discovery Education Streaming Plus.
How about a little media time? I love including different ways to incorporate a lesson (like TV!) Discovery Education Streaming Plus is  like having the entire DVD selection of your local public library available to you from the convenience of your home, 24/7/365.

But it’s not just a collection of videos that you can watch from beginning to end. This library has been organized into useable video clips, organized and categorized, close-captioned, and supplemented with lesson plans, teaching guides, interactive simulations, images, audio resources, and other resources and materials that you can incorporate into virtually every aspect of your homeschool curriculum.
