Advice from Homeschool Moms

Best Subscriptions for Homeschoolers

Subscription boxes are the thing now, right? I mean you see them everywhere for everything from beauty boxes to crafts for kids. You know why? BECAUSE THEY ARE AWESOME! It’s like Christmas every time a new box comes in. We have tried out a TON of different subscription services and some are better than others for sure! But regardless they have all been so much fun!

Best Subscriptions for Homeschool Families

Some of these we have received and tried out while some of them are on our “can’t wait to try” list! I’ve included a base price for each of these. However, every single one costs less when you purchase 3 or 6 or even 12-month subscriptions. So keep that in mind.

The Story Box

Speaking of children’s books, The Story Box is another great subscription. My boys love getting books in the mail and I love getting surprise books that I never would have thought of or seen. Each month they send you special package that contains two children’s books (either two picture books or two board books or one of each depending on which package you order). Each book presents good learning opportunities and each book is FUN for kids. The prices range from $14.99 to $19.99 depending on which package you order. Feel free to check out our unboxing video here!

Book of the Month

Got older kids? Try Book of the Month Club. It’s really similar to The Story Box in the sense that a new book arrives each month in the mail. Although…you can choose the book! If you want. You have an opportunity each month to look through their selections and choose which one comes to you. There are 5 new books each month to choose from and you can choose how many books come to you. This service is intended for adults so I would say older, more mature kids would really appreciate it. Or maybe just get it for yourself! Check out our unboxing video here.

Little Loving Hands

This is one that is on our “can’t wait to try” list! One of the reasons we homeschool is to teach our children about charity and kindness. Every month Little Loving Hands sends you a new box with craft materials designed to help your child learn about charitable giving. It includes educational content about the organization in need, a certificate of achievement, collectible button, and more! Feel free to buy this for me! 😉 $25 a month and, oh, these are tax-deductible! Yay!

Spangler Science Club

As you know, each month I share 10 themed experiments you can do at home for our Science Saturday Series BUT get this. Spangler Science Club works the same way, only it comes right to your door!!! It also comes with all the supplies you need and a workbook!  We love Spangler Science Club, which is why I wrote a post about it being an easy curriculum for homeschoolers (yes, you can totally use this as a curriculum) not that long ago. The price ranges from $9.95- $29.95 depending on the number of experiments. Watch our unboxing video here.

And hey, TAKE 40% OFF your first box until March 31st with the CODE: SPANGLER16AF
(with a subscription of at least 3 months)

Bramble Box

These are so cute! Bramble Boxes are designed for 3-7 year olds, so if you have little ones you should totally try these out! They are all about pretend play. Each kit contains at least one imaginative play item and 2-3 activities based around a fun theme. At $29.95 a month this might be a fun way to keep little ones busy while you homeschool the older ones. Maybe not EVERY month because money doesn’t grow on trees, but every so often it might be fun!

Creation Crate

If you have a tinkerer in your family like we do, this is a MUST. I can’t say we have tried it because our kids are still on the younger side but I CANNOT WAIT for my son to try Creation Crate. I know he will absolutely love it! (The recommended age is 12-75 FYI) Creation Crate is tech education-in-a-box! With Creation Crate, you can learn how to build electronics without any prior experience. Their projects are a combination of building hardware and programming software with a focus on helping you understand how it works. Each month, you’ll be given a new project that’s slightly harder than the last. Seriously, how cool is that!? At just $29.95 a month, does it get any better?

 Sensory TheraPLAY Box

TheraPLAY subscription boxes are designed for children with autism and those with sensory needs.  Sensory TheraPlay Boxes are curated by a licensed occupational therapist and ship out the first week of each month. While this wonderful sensory box is intended for children on the autism spectrum and/or children with sensory processing issues, kids with emotional disturbance (e.g., hyperactivity, impulsiveness, excessive anxiety, temper tantrums, poor coping skills) can also benefit from the items in this box! Even if your child doesn’t have any of those things, I honestly still believe they could benefit from the items in the box! I’ll be honest, at $39.95 the price is more than other subscription services. However, once we received our box I was surprised how much was in it! I took the liberty of totaling up everything that came in my box. So let’s say first I knew I wanted to order all these things off Amazon, (which I wouldn’t have because a lot of these items were new to me) I would be spending $49.95 on Amazon for al of them. So, A BIG FAT YES! Yes, they are totally worth the price! So what was in our box? Check out my full review to see exactly what our box came with!

Green Kid Crafts

I ordered a 6-month subscription for Green Kids Crafts about 2 years ago when I was pregnant and about to have our youngest. It always had an easy craft to do with my oldest with a newborn around. We loved every single box! They were filled with about 6-8 themed crafts in each box, plus they usually included bonus crafts where they supplied the idea but you supplied the stuff (easy stuff you can find at home) These ideas are great to explore the topics even farther. I have to say, out of ALL the subscriptions we have ever had, Green Kids Crafts was organized the nicest. Each craft was put into its own little bag (some times 2 crafts in a bag) so my son knew that we would only do ONE bag at a time. This really helped make it last. They were the only ones to do that in my experience. They cost $19.95 a month.

Surprise Ride

Surprise Ride is just that, a surprise. It could be science, it could be art, history,  geography, or anything. But it WILL be hands-on and fun learning.  I will tell you that this had the least amount of activities of all the subscription services at only two per box. However, they also include a snack, a book, and fun extras that relate to the theme of the box. This is great for exploring new topics. While they only technically have two activities you won’t be disappointed with what you get. For $24 a month it’s worth trying out! Check out our unboxing video here

FieldTripZoom

Like Epic! Books, FieldTripZoom is a digital subscription. It’s live streaming, curriculum based field trips. The trips cover science, technology, engineering, math, arts and humanities (STEAM), health and wellness, history, government, and literacy with a mix of holiday and international events. It’s amazing! Imagine Facebook Live with engineers, scientists, and historians then add hands-on learning and an interactive experience and you have something AMAZING! We have loved using it and you can read a full review I wrote awhile back here. It’s priced at $49.95 per year/per household for homeschoolers. There are 300+ live stream events for ages K-12. All you need is Internet access.

Brick Loot

My son LOVES Brick Loot. Like,  REALLY LOVES Brick Loot. I think it’s just a little bit over priced for what you get (but aren’t all legos?), that being said, if you have a Lego lover in your house. This is a MUST TRY!  I love that it’s filled with lego builds you won’t find in the store and it’s a surprise each month! We have been receiving these for quite a while and we have got everything from titanic, to sweet shop builds.  If you’d like to watch our brick loot unboxing video check it out here!

Bean Box

This one is for Mom and Dad unless of course you like to hop your kids up on caffeine. 😉 Bean Box is coffee right to your door. Homeschool moms run on coffee right? You choose between the bean box sampler (one I got) or the coffee of the month. You can also choose which kind of roast you like (light, medium, dark, etc). I loved ALL the coffee in the sampler and I loved that I got to try out different coffee throughout the month. Oh, and did I mention it ships within 48 hours of roasting!!! It’s VERY good coffee. Honestly, the best coffee I’ve ever had! $17 a month and awesome coffee. What’s not to love? Check out our unboxing video here.

Simple Loose Leaf

Coffee not your thing? Try Simple Loose Leaf tea. It works almost the same way as Bean Box except with tea! For only $9 a month you will get a sampling of 4 different loose leaf teas. Use this for yourself (you know I love my loose leaf tea if you follow me on IG) or try it out with the kids during poetry tea time!! How fun would that be?
